State of North Carolina v. Ronald Junior Cotton

In July 1984, Jennifer Thompson was raped at knifepoint after a man broke in her apartment in Burlington, North Carolina. After the incident, Jennifer identified Ronald Cotton as her rapist during an eyewitness lineup. This positive identification led to the conviction of 23-year-old, Ronald Cotton. Eleven years later, DNA evidence proved Ronald Cotton did not rape Jennifer Thompson. In 1995, Cotton was exonerated after serving more than decade in prison for a crime he did not commit.
